David F. Wilson Artist Talk
Wavy Walls
David F Wilson is an artist based in Perth Scotland, he was the designer and builder of the Wavy Walls at the Vane Tempest Car Park at Seaham.
Constructed over a period of weeks in 1998 the stonewalls adds a quirky distinctiveness to what is a popular access point to the beach below. David’s art practice is a blend of art and craft mixed with a modern aesthetic he has completed a wide range of Public Art commissions across the UK.
The Wavy Walls are sited on an area of ground where the Vane Tempest Colliery used to dominate the landscape of the area, what was industrial and bleak has now been returned back to a more natural state.
David’s response to the project was not to look back to history but to be inspired by the naturalness that the area suggests. The sea, the tide and seashells are all there in his walls, their organic forms colour and texture are a fun welcoming backdrop to the car park, public spaces which are normally seen as purely utilitarian.
